Mount St, Mayfair

This next property is situated on Mount Street, between Grosvenor Square Garden and The Church of the Immaculate Conception in Mayfair, and a very short stroll from Hyde Park. As is becoming a common story, the new owners had purchased this property for its potential rather than for its current state. The owners told us that the property was actually quite spacious, but the interior layout was unacceptable.

Our first order of business was to put in a large basement for a family room and a home office. Up in the loft, we added a pair of children’s bedrooms which share a single en-suite washroom between them. This expansion left more open space below. Next we gutted the ground floor entirely, and gave let our design team do something truly special with the living space, as you cans see for yourself.

A modern two-basin bathroom with separate bath and shower serves the ground floor, just off the wide kitchen/dining area which we fitted with a skylight. Centrally controlled smart lighting and heating was added, allowing programmed changes or direct control of the entire home from any smart phone. No more coming home to a darkened and forbidding house. Timed and programmable underfloor heating makes sure the owners never wake up to a cold floor, either.

Lastly, the owners wanted something done with the small roof terrace that attracted them to the home in the first place. We replaced the existing wrought iron railing with a slimmer version, then built up plants and trellises outside and above that to keep the small breakfast area private from the street. The city views are preserved, however, as one need only stand to see over the trellises.
