Cadogan St, Sloane Square

This property is a listed building on Cadogan Street, Near Sloane Square. The owners approached LUX Construction and asked what could be done to expand and modernise the living space, with the understanding that no external additions could be made and there was no loft space to speak of.

We like a challenge of course, and we specialise in keeping the charms and exteriors of listed buildings intact whilst making the interiors into real, comfortable homes. We took on the job, and we are quite proud of what we have been able to do for the property.

We opted for a design split as well as a physical one for the home. The public and entertaining spaces on the main floor and dining room are classic and conservative, yet the bathrooms, kitchen and bedrooms are both modern and eminently useable. This is an example of how we at LUX Construction can find the solutions our clients need to their living space issues, even if they are a bit unconventional due to the restraints of the structure.

In the kitchen, dark wood and white tile combine to make the room stylish and energetic. The addition of a large central breakfast bar island completes the modern, galley-like look of the room, while providing seating for five.

To create the unique formal dining area we raised the ceiling, exposing the beams and making the open plan room feel much larger than it really is. Hand-blown glass lighting elements here and in the nearby stairwell emphasise the increased space and unify the appearance of the two areas. The stairwell itself is set off with a dramatic two storey marble wall that never fails to turn a visitor’s head on their first, or even second visit.
