St Luke’s St, Chelsea

This time, we were called in to renovate a home on St Luke’s Street in Chelsea, midway between the Embankment and the Natural History Museum. This property already had many good features, including large rooms and an excellent floor plan. Luckily, what it lacked was easily addressed.

We began by completely gutting the loft, and taking the entire interior back down to the brick to re-plaster. As our remit was to provide more bedroom space, we drew up plans to put in two ample bedrooms with window dormers which both open onto a single upstairs bath. The results are as you see here. That bath features lovely stone floors and a raised all-glass shower enclosure with built-in shelving.

The ground floor had originally featured a sitting room, dining room and kitchen. The owners felt that the dining area was underused and unnecessary. We prepared plans to knock the sitting and dining rooms through to form one very large living room, and to attach a smaller dining area to the kitchen itself. The new living room sits 10 comfortably, and is ideal for entertaining.

Tasteful use of blacks, whites and greys provide strong contrasts without darkening the rooms, and provide a coherent, elegant decorating scheme throughout the home.
